The Straughn School District in Andalusia, Ala. celebrated the completion of a new $8.2 million auditorium. The auditorium, built by Whaley Construction, is designed to accommodate a variety of events, including theater performances, school assemblies and community meetings. The state-of-the-art facility also provides specialized classrooms for music, drama and other school activities.

A standout feature of the building is its 23,000-square-foot white roof, designed to reflect heat and reduce energy costs. As part of this roof, four BILCO smoke vents with white powder coat finish were installed. These smoke vents provide critical fire protection by removing smoke, heat and gases in the event of a fire, ensuring the safety of all occupants and assisting firefighters in controlling the situation. The powder coat finish offers long-lasting durability and color retention, making it an ideal choice for the building’s exterior.

“BILCO was listed in the spec books as a supplier for the smoke vents, and we use BILCO whenever we need roof hatches.”
