St. Regis Longboat Key, a new luxury resort in Sarasota, Fla., is a groundbreaking development blending high-end accommodations with architectural elegance. The resort includes 168 guestrooms, 69 private residences and multiple amenities like saltwater lagoons, a spa, a bar and businesses meeting facilities. A key design feature of the development is its seamless integration with the natural surroundings of the Gulf of Mexico, enhancing the guest experience. BILCO’s terrazzo doors are essential to the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the residences. These doors provide discreet access to mechanical equipment for the plunge pools. With their durable, corrosion-resistant materials, they are designed to withstand the coastal environment. Their ability to accept various architectural finishes like ceramic tile or granite, allows them to integrate smoothly into the overall design, offering both practical and visual harmony.
“We went with the BILCO hatch because it has an inlay option where you can have a paver or tile placed on top of it. We can make that hatch disappear as much as you can within the deck. We wanted to have the functionality that we could access these spaces that are below the floor, but at the same time, we didn’t want them to be eye sores. As an architect, I know they are there, but it’s not something people will be looking at.”
